The Icelandic nature can be very unpredictable – ranging the full scale from gentle sunny moments to rough winds and hail. The average temperature in July is around 10°C / 50°F, so bringing something slightly thicker than skinsuits might be a good idea.
July is quite heavy, in regard to tourist traffic, so we recommend you book your room early – unless you plan to camp out!
The Rift has worked with two hotels close to the starting line which we feel will provide races with the optimal Iceland experience. Each hotel has provided a discounted rate to participants. They also have meal plan options as well as additional Iceland adventures that you can book directly with them to add even more excitement to your trip.

Midgard Base Camp offers accommodation in central South Iceland that caters for all levels of need and all types of travellers. At Midgard you will also find a restaurant, café and bar.
The camp site Hellishólar are about 10 km distance from the town Hvolsvöllur. When driving from Reykjavík, drive through Hvolsvöllur to the end of town. There is a sign to the left marked Fljótshlíð. Drive about 10 minutes by that road and then Hellishólar is on the right side.
There is a very good toilet facilities with toilets, showers, hot tubs, washing machine and a tumble dryer. There is a large playground for children with trampoline, swings, slides and more. There is also a great 9 hole golf course, Þverárvöllur, as well as a football field. Restaurant is also at the camp site and is open every day. Hotel with 36 rooms and 24 summer houses.
The camp site is a first class camp site. There is electricity for folding campers, Caravans and mobile homes.
The cozy campsite has lot of trees that give good shelter. In the neighborhood are nice waterfalls, hiking trails, Tumastaðaskógur and swimming pool 10 km away.
